2. The Great GAPsby Society

Agree or disagree with this cartoon and explain why the artist is making an allusion to The Great Gatsby? What does this say about the importance of the book?

  1. I agree with the cartoon above, it is almost always true and in most cases will be that "the rich get richer, and the poor get- children" (Fitzgerald, 101.) Children meaning more mouth to feed and more bills to pay, which will make you poorer. The cartoon is being connected to The Great Gatsby because the rich and eccentric, like Gatsby and Tom, who are able to buy huge houses in fancy places, will never understand that only when you have money can you make money. (Unless you are lucky enough like Gatsby to come by a man who gives you work and leaves you thousands of dollars to inherit.) The book is important because it shows the wide gap between Gatsby, Tom, Daisy, Jordan and Wilson who has to stay in his garage all day and lives in an ash heap.

  2. I also agree like Ibai does on this illustration, because I feel that society today the rich are getting richer, and the poor getting poorer. The rich people cannot understand the poorer people getting poorer because they are blinded by their own wealth. The poor try to get as rich as possible, but the gaps between the two classes is getting bigger. this cartoon shows an allusion to great Gatsby because Gatsby is mighty and rich like many other people in the area, like Tom. However, there are still people like Wilson who works in a garage, but are sincere people. This book shows that the people have to be aware of this gap, because someday, it will be too wide.

  3. i agree with the cartoon and and with ibai and david because it's areflection of gatsby's society in which there was a huge gap between the rich and the poor persons since all the things were in favor of the stronger the richer they didn't feel about the others because whch was important for them is just to enjoy their parties and to add more wealth to gain more opportunities
